Many people find it difficult to grow their own organic sourdough starter from scratch. Some people just do not have the time that it takes to devote to growing it. Either way, there are options for you. Purchase an 8 ounce jar of starter here, and you will be able to jump right into baking sourdough bread within a few days of receiving your starter. Your starter will include a Sourdough Starter How To Guide that gives you step by step instructions on what to do with it starting with the moment you receive it.
NOTE: Sourdough Starter is only shipped out one day a week on Mondays for a couple of different reasons. For one thing, we want to make sure that your starter does not get left sitting in the post office over the weekend. Shipping out on Mondays allows us the peace of mind to know that you will receive your starter on Wednesday or Thursday at the latest. Your jar will be carefully packaged and protected, ensuring a safe delivery. In warmer months, we will ship your starter wrapped in cooling packs to make sure that it is temperature controlled.
Your starter will be shipped to you as a fed starter. Once you receive your starter in the mail, you will need to feed it again immediately. Your How To Guide will walk you through this process step by step. I highly recommend that you have your transfer container ready before your starter arrives. You will need to pour your starter into a larger container such as this one, so that you can feed it and begin to build up a larger quantity for yourself.
INGREDIENTS: Organic Unbleached All Purpose Flour and Filtered Water.
I use only organic flour when feeding my starter. This way I will know that my starter will remain organic for those of you who only use organic ingredients. But once you receive your starter in the mail, you do not have to continue feeding it organic flour. Feel free to use any type of all purpose flour that you choose, as long as it is unbleached.
